Basic Module Back & Shoulder Massage

This Basic Module Back & Shoulder Massage is the most important basic module when you want to learn how to massage. When people think about a massage, this is the first area of the body that comes to mind. This is not strange, since most complain of physical tension or muscle pains in their backs and shoulders. A massage of this area is easily accessible and has quick positive effects.

In this basic module, you will also learn other important aspects of giving a good and careful massage. Namely, the build-up in the pressure you apply and the proper order of the techniques you apply. Every massage starts with large stroking movements. After this, you apply shorter strokes, followed by kneading techniques, and finally frictions, which are more acute techniques with higher pressure (thus going deeper into the muscle tissue). These three basic techniques are all discussed during the lesson.

Topics in this Basic Module Back & Shoulders Massage:

  • How do you guide the client on the massage table?
  • The start of the massage
  • Which massage oil to use and how to apply it
  • Eight alternating massage techniques
  • The order of techniques and the pressure build-up
  • The conclusion of the massage
  • and more...

Learn Back and Shoulder massage

When you participate in this module, you will have access to this online learning environment, including the Knowledge Center, which contains important theory on various subjects that are directly related to giving a massage. The theory is not mandatory so you don’t have to worry about hours of study before you can massage. However, the theory is very educational, extensive, and based on knowledge and experience. At the moment, the Knowledge Center is in Dutch only, but you can use the translation function of your web browser.

In addition to the Knowledge Center, you also have access to the back and shoulder massage component. This includes a description of each technique along with color photos for clarification. Furthermore, there is an instructional video with all of the techniques, where you can see exactly how each technique is performed. The spoken instructions in the videos are in Dutch, but it is still educational to watch them. To make practicing even easier, you can download the PDFs of the practical overviews of the techniques to have with you while massaging. These are ideal for executing the order of the techniques correctly.

The instructional Videos are ideal for practicing.

Available Formats

Because this basic module is so important, and you will immediately learn to give a good and relaxing back and shoulders massage, we offer this lesson the most often. You can follow this module in two different ways:

  • The Massage Workshop for Two consists entirely of this lesson and you will also be massaged by the instructor
  • As the first module in the massage course for beginners in English for two people, after which the other three basic modules follow.

Follow-up Modules?

After you have completed the Basic Module Back & Shoulders Massage or the Massage Workshop for Two, the remaining three basic modules are available to you. You can sign up for any of them with the instructor who already taught you the lesson.

In addition to the four basic modules, there are six advanced modules: three for new techniques on the back, one module for new techniques on the legs and feet, another with new material for the neck and face, and a module for chest and abdominal massage. We are still working on translating these modules to English. At this time it is not known when they will be ready.
